October 29 — Where Things Stand

An unexpected journey, a serious diagnosis, and a whole lot to be thankful for.

First of all, thank you for being here! Whether you’re family, a friend, a coworker, or someone who just took a wrong turn looking for deep-dish pizza, I’m glad you found your way here.

It’s been nearly a month since my unexpected brain surgery, and I’m still amazed by everything that’s happened.

The good news? I’m recovering remarkably well from surgery. I’m up and walking, enjoying time with my family, and finding joy in some of the simplest things in life. There have certainly been challenges, but I have so much to be grateful for.

The difficult news? I have brain cancer, and the diagnosis is serious. The next phase of my journey involves radiation and chemotherapy, along with plenty of rest, recovery, and adjustments along the way. I’ll be stepping away from work on medical leave to focus on treatment, healing, and my family.

I won’t pretend to know what the future holds. There are some very real uncertainties ahead.

But here’s the remarkable part.

In many ways, I feel like I’ve been given a new life. Not simply because I survived brain surgery, but because something has fundamentally changed in how I see the world.

The little things don’t seem quite so little anymore. The people around me have become even more precious. Every conversation, every act of kindness, every moment with someone I love seems to carry greater meaning.

And through it all, my faith in God and His greater story has only grown stronger.

I’ve witnessed extraordinary love, remarkable circumstances, and more reasons for gratitude than I could possibly fit into one update. I hope to share many of those stories here as this journey unfolds.

I’m not celebrating a cancer diagnosis. But I am celebrating the life I’ve been given today, the people I get to share it with, and the opportunity to make whatever time I have truly count.

So that’s where things stand. A serious road ahead, an incredible family beside me, a heart full of gratitude, and apparently a new hobby involving brain surgery jokes.

Thank you for your friendship, encouragement, and prayers. They mean more than you know.

The journey continues. And I suspect there are a few more unexpected detours ahead.

With love and gratitude,

Brad
